David has been a pioneer of the adventure challenge concept ever since he developed The Caledonian Challenge in 1996. The initial four day route over 32 Munros, from Ben Lawers to Ben Nevis, nearly finished off everyone who attempted it so he dreamt up the hugely popular 54 mile route, a 24 hour hike along the West Highland Way.
In 1999 David set up his own outdoor challenge company and founded The Loch Ness Marathon (now the UK’s 3rd largest marathon). Since then WildFox Events has been the driving force behind such epic events as The Maggie’s Monster Bike and Hike, The Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon and The Glencoe Gathering. In 2015 WildFox Events launched The Quilter Cheviot Etape Royale in response to the growing demand for exciting closed road sportive cycling events.
David always likes to test out events himself and will often find an extreme way to make it all the more challenging, for instance he completed The Glencoe Gathering in a blizzard and famously did the entire 100 mile Quilter Cheviot Etape Royale with Mark Beaumont, on Penny Farthings.
David’s aim is to motivate people to surpass their own expectations as well as raise money to help others. To date WildFox Events has helped facilitate over £30 million for charity directly and indirectly through the events.
David and his family live and work on the south shore of Loch Tay in Highland Perthshire.
